The Happy Hands club is a sign-language club that is new to our school this year. Sophomore Chantay Long is the one who had the idea in mind and started the club.
“I wanted to share what I love to do with others. So one day I was watching Napoleon Dynamite and got the name. Silly? I know,” said Long.
The first meeting consisted of members learning how to sign their names. Long hopes that the members will eventually be able to carry out conversations with each other in American Sign Language. The club members will also sign songs with Long if they want to.
Long wants students to be able to speak to those in the deaf community and inspire others to help the deaf community.
The first meeting was August 24, but if anyone is interested, they can still sign up by emailing Long at [email protected].
