Pigs Give Birth

Pigs+Give+Birth

The past few weeks have been very eventful in the PHS agriculture department. Five of the department’s pigs gave birth within the past few weeks.

Peach, the first of the mothers to give birth, had eight piglets on December 22, with the delivery taking about 4 hours. Wynonna gave birth to seven piglets on January 4, with the delivery taking about 5 hours. Two days later, on January 6, Sassy gave birth to 10 piglets. During the snow days, two more pigs, Trixie and Dixie, gave birth to ten piglets each, taking 3-4 hours.

Several people came in and helped with the deliveries.

“I would like to give a shout out to Addison Wells, Isabelle Goff, and Nick Padgett. I do remember each of them being very helpful,” said animal science teacher Cory Scott.

The piglets will be staying at PHS until they are sold, and the mothers will be going back to their original homes once the piglets are old enough to be on their own.

So far, the ag department has been very successful with the pigs. Two more more pigs will give birth later on in the spring.
