The Pride of Paoli winter guard has kicked off their season with a competition at Winchester, Kentucky. This season the guard is presenting a jail break theme with the song Outsiders by Chumbawamba for their show. Seniors Vanessa Swartz and Maddie Robertson; juniors Christan Ruth, Daniel Breedlove, Tessa Cranfield and Shawna Phegly; freshmen Caitlyn Taylor and Issac Denton; eighth graders Braxton Clarkson, Nina Gaona and Alisha Dawson are all members of the group this year.
Currently the group are working on more body work with flags and rifles. Two members of the winter guard, junior Christan Ruth and senior Maddie Robertson, have been trying new maneuvers such as tossing flags and other guard equipment over moving props. The show is still not how they want it yet, but they will change things as they go throughout their season.
“We can’t wait to perform in front of crowds with this group. It’s looking to be a really fun show that I hope everyone will enjoy,” said Ruth.
The guard’s first performance was on Saturday, February 1 and they placed fifth. The guard will continue their competitions on Saturday, February 15 at Conner High School in Hebron, Kentucky, and they will continue to have a performance every Saturday that follows.
