Lindley Honored for Exemplary Teaching
October 22, 2020
During May of 2020, after being nominated by the Lost River Chapter of the Indiana Daughters of the American Revolution, history teacher Chris Lindley was selected to receive DAR’s History Teacher of the Year award.
Since 1982, DAR has annually chosen an American history teacher that has made a positive impact on their students or the community to receive this award. Contributions may be from raising money for historical organizations, assigning unique assignments and taking field trips that stand out.
According to dar.org, every year since 1982, the National Society has honored teachers of American History and related fields for their service.
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the ceremony where Lindley was supposed to receive his award was postponed. It was rescheduled for sometime in September, but was cancelled for a second time due to unknown circumstances. During the next Paoli School Corporation meeting on November 9, 2020, Lindley is to finally receive his prize. “I am, of course, humbled by the confidence they placed in me by nominating me for the award. I can only hope that what I have tried to do for years has made an impact for history education, making our students more aware of their nation’s past and how that connects to where we are currently, and especially that it helps them become wiser people, better critical thinkers, and more productive citizens, as well as representing PHS well,” said Lindley.
