Padgett Competes for the Crown
December 4, 2020
On November 18-24, senior Libby Padgett traveled to Orlando, Florida to compete in the National American Miss National Pageant, where she participated in several events such as formal wear, personal introduction, and interviews. The pageant also held optional competitions including talent, actress, casual wear, runway, and Music Artist of the Year. Due to the coronavirus, all contestants were required to wear a mask at all times except while on stage, and could not sit directly next to other competitors.
“The masks really did not affect me and I was happy we were all doing our best to stay safe. I was still able to communicate and become close with the other pageant girls while remaining socially distanced,” said Padgett.
Contestants were also able to participate in other festivities like a neon party and a Thanksgiving banquet to allow participants to still celebrate while being away from their families.
“I thought it was nice that we could still celebrate Thanksgiving, even through the craziness of the pageant,” said Padgett.
Padgett came home being awarded 1st runner up in the Music Artist of the Year and Spirit of America Award.
“My favorite part was seeing all of my friends that I have made over the years and making new friends,” said Padgett.
Padgett plans on competing in the next state pageant which is planned to be held in July 2021.
