Track Heads to Perry

The Varsity track team will open with their first meet on the road tonight at Perry Central against the Commodores. Last season the boys sent Samson Johnson to state for the long jump and the Rams are hoping to keep the winning culture going this year.

The boys team is made up of seniors Austin Benales, William Bottoms, Connor Evans, Marty Higgins, Adin Monroe, Camron Meehan, Max Newkirk, Ian Livingston, Xander Phelps, Nolan Walker, Jacob Workman, juniors Quinton Albertson, Matteo Sambruni, Willson Windhorst, sophomores Peyton Baker, Ryley Butler, Oscar Lewellyn, Dashawn Robertson, Jaxson Reynolds, and freshmen Colton Baechle, Kolt Bonta, Coen Brace, Kirkland Hughes, Dane Padgett, Jacoby Piper, Kade Walls.

The boy’s team is starting off the season with new coach, Cara Hall and she feels confident about the season.

“I will be there to push and motivate my athletes and, hopefully, get some new athletes out in the program. I want the athletes to try new events and see how far they can grow in their events. I wouldn’t mind having a couple records broken either. Just a good, positive, fun, hard working atmosphere is what I am striving for the team,” said Hall.

Senior Austin Benales was really impressed with the relay team in their first practice.

“We lost almost everyone on the relay team last year so we basically have a whole new relay team. Last year the best time we got was 47 seconds and this year on our first try we got a 48 so I have a lot of confidence in our team this year,” said Benales.

The girl’s team is returning a lot of talent from last season.

Members of the team this year are seniors Cailyn Baechle, Lara Brace, Kyrsten Fehribach, juniors Carley Higgins, Anna Radcliff, Lily Stroud, Stella Windhorst, TyLynn Taylor, Eliza Ross, sophomores Elena Carmona, Lilly Hall,  Jericho Hopper, and freshman Cheroke Hopper, Kailynn Larimore, Libby Newkirk, and Maddie Vernon.

“Last year, we had competitors in every event. Kyrsten Fehribach and Carley Higgins advanced from the Sectional to the Regional. Kyrsten advanced to the State Finals in the 100 hurdles and the high jump,” said Girls Track Coach Summer Hudelson.

Hudelson has her eye on Fehribach and hopes to see her at State Finals once again.

“I am looking forward to Kyrsten having a successful season.  She knows what it takes to succeed and advance to the state competition,” said Hudelson.
