This fall, the school welcomed Cynthia Underwood as the new teacher on staff to lead the choir.
Underwood was hired after Seth Eisenhower resigned at the end of last school year for a different position. Underwood participated in choirs and musical theater productions through her high school experience at Bloomington High School South and got her vocal degree from the College of Wooster in Ohio. Last year, Underwood taught at Jimtown High School, and the year before that, she was a student teacher in Bloomington at Batchelor Middle School.
“I’m very excited about where the choirs are at the moment. The Junior High Choirs are singing together consistently, and even singing a few songs in two parts. We’re learning about how to listen to each other and work together. Choir is kind of like a team sport in that way. We’re making improvements every day. The High School Choir has a really good instinct for tone, the sound of our voices, and they tune to each other beautifully. We’re learning Thriller by Michael Jackson, and there are already moments that give me chills! We’ll be ready to start even more music soon,” said Underwood.
The choirs are preparing their first choir concert on Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. Admission is free.
