This year’s Service Day will be held next week on October 12 and marks the seventh year of hosting the event. This year there are 25 projects students and staff will participate in, with many of the projects returning from last year, as well as a few new projects on the list.
Science Teacher Lori Stroud will be hosting a STEM craft day while English teacher Brooke Goerres will take a group to the French Lick Museum.
Some of the projects require students to stay at the high school, such as the group making PSA videos on Anti- Bullying and Anti-Vaping themed
projects, or the Social Studies teachers Neil Dittmer and Brian Wilson, working to repair the tornado damage to the school’s Nature Trail.
Many projects take place off of campus, like the popular Paoli Airport Cleaning Day and the visit to the Orange County Humane Society, just to name a few.
A survey was sent out to the students, allowing them to pick and choose which service group they would like to be put into. After the survey was completed, Service Day Coordinator Heather Nichols organized and divided up the students among the service group.
“Service Day is a chance for students to make a real difference in our community. Kids don’t always feel that they can change the world they are in but
on Service Day they can,” said Nichols.
The annual event is an opportunity for students and staff to work on a project that builds numerous workforce skills and make connections.
“I look for our students to make a positive impact on our community and gain insight on the difference we can make in our community,” said Assistant Principal Adam Stroud.
