The Lady Rams basketball team is closing in on the halfway point of their season. As of now, the Lady Rams sit at 4-6 and 0-1 in conference play. The team lost quite a few scoring and leadership roles with last year’s graduating class, but have found ways to overcome this.
Another challenge the Lady Rams have faced this year is their small team, with only 13 players. Three players are out with injuries as well and two of those three are not returning for the rest two of the year. One of those injured players is sophomore Maddie Vernon who will be returning soon; she was out with a torn ACL which she suffered from this summer. Even with all these injuries the upperclassmen have done a great job of managing the team. The captains for the teams are seniors Carley Higgins and Anna Radcliff and junior Jericho Hopper.
The Lady Rams have not had the start they had hoped for, but they are improving every week.
“I think it has been a rocky start for sure, but as the season goes on I believe we will continue to improve and get better each and every week,” said Higgins.
“Our season so far has been going fairly well, although we are not where we feel we should be record-wise, we are using every game as a learning experience. We are progressing on different things we are working on in practice and that is what we are trying to do, along with winning. Our record is not where we feel it should be but we have watched film on each game and we have improved our defense and parts of our offense. For the second half of the season, we are going to keep improving and keep competing, although some people doubt our team’s ability to win any games and for sure no more than 10, we will not give up and I think we will do better than they think; that’s the thing about our team, we don’t quit and we never quit competing!” said Hopper.
Higgins and Hopper have been big all season as they have led the team in scoring through the season so far and are expected to do the rest of the season.
The Lady Rams are continuing to improve each and every week and with the addition of Vernon coming back, they will only get better. This will help the Lady Rams gear up for Sectional play at the beginning of February.
