Many people would agree that the ideal breakfast would come homemade or possibly from a renowned breakfast-oriented restaurant. I am not one of those people. Instead, for my early morning day-starter, I opt for the McDonald’s Sausage Egg and Cheese McGriddles (for short, I will be referring to it as the McGriddle because that “s” seems a bit unnecessary, but that’s a topic for another day). Regardless, McGriddle truly is the epitome of human innovation.
The sandwich was introduced in 2003 to many participating countries and has served as a staple of McDonald’s breakfast ever since. The wonderful
combination of sausage, egg, and cheese, all at once would be good all on its own; however, we’re missing the secret ingredient: the syrup-infused pancake buns on either side, adding to the complexity of the breakfast sandwich, and combining all of the flavors like the Power Rangers to form a perfect composition with 430 calories of cheesy, juicy, and savory goodness than ever thought possible. But it is so much more than that.
The McGriddle is not just a sandwich; it is an experience that takes some fine-tuning. There are special ways to optimize your morning to make the most of this beautiful creation. First, the time frame of when you choose to eat the sandwich can significantly impact the adventure you are about to take part in. It’s a breakfast sandwich, so we are thinking more along the lines of 5 o’clock to noon. But what time is truly optimal? I’d say the earlier, the better. Most McDonald’s open at 5 a.m., so just to be safe, show up at 4:30 and wait outside so that the workers will likely reward your eagerness with a better sandwich.
As for where to eat it, I would not recommend staying in the restaurant, mainly because you will probably want to order another one. Instead, take it
home or maybe a lovely park bench if it’s a nice day outside.
Next, another crucial factor in the McGriddle experience is the drink. This one can get a bit personal, so I’ll just explain what works for me. I go with the Mocha Frappe due to its versatility and chocolate flavor, which helps balance out the savoriness of the sandwich. When retrieving the sandwich,
dress casually, but not too casually. A nice pair of pants and a shirt are optimal attire for acquiring the sandwich, and if it’s cold, throw on a jacket.
All in all, the McGriddle warrants an immense amount of preparation to make the most out of the experience, so be sure that next time you find yourself craving salvation, stop by a McDonald’s, get yourself a McGriddle, and enjoy it because that is what the principle of the sandwich is all about.
It isn’t meant to be over-assessed; rather, the McGriddle symbolizes joy (and maybe gluttony) given to get you through the day.
