Ping Pong is a game played and enjoyed by many, especially one eighth-grade teacher.
Social Studies teacher Aaron Reckelhoff plays ping pong regularly, has played for many years, and is very dedicated.
“Ping pong has been a game that I have done off and on again throughout my life, but this is the most dedicated I have been to playing and improving my game,” said Reckelhoff.
He plays the most at Southern Indiana Table Tennis Club in New Albany, usually two to three times a week.
Since ping pong is not hard to learn, Reckelhoff has played since middle school when he played for fun with his friends. He usually plays ping pong with players who have a similar game to his because they will play a more “top-spin” game or because of the game’s fast-paced nature. Reckelhoff’s favorite thing about ping pong is the different people and styles he encounters.
“Ping pong is like any other sport. I feel there is a myriad of emotions that it can invoke, but for the most part, I feel joy when playing,” said Reckelhoff.
Reckelhoff believes the game is one anyone can enjoy and has simple advice for anyone getting started.
“My advice would be to continue to work on weaknesses in your game,” said Reckelhoff.
Reckelhoff plans to continue playing ping pong for as long as his body allows him, and hopefully, that will be quite a while since his oldest opponent was 92 years old.
