The theme for Prom has been decided, along with many other aspects of the night. This year’s theme is Louisiana Bayou, but a set name has yet to be picked. The event will be held on April 20, starting at 7 p.m.
“Personally, I am really excited for this theme, as it is something original, that I believe could really be something special. The Louisiana bayou
could provide a wonderful aesthetic, and I’m excited to see how it turns out,” said Junior Class President Brian Fullington.
Decorations will include items such as gators, fireflies, crickets, moss hanging from the trees, cabins with lanterns glowing, etc. There will also be a fog machine by the entryway. The table-toppers are still being decided, but the plan is to have a voodoo vibe, which will include items like tarot cards and other witchy and mystic props. The Prom royalty crowns are also tied to the theme as well. The Prom queen and princess will be receiving tiaras, and the king and prince will be receiving crowns.
“I think we have a lot of good ideas for this year’s Prom. We’re going for a swampy, Louisiana bayou vibe. We try to come up with ideas that on the surface don’t look like they’d make sense for an event like a Prom, but the kids always execute it so well that it ends up being a lot of fun,” said Junior Class Sponsor Chris Jones.
The junior class officers have also picked out the food that will be served. They decided on fried chicken, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, corn, pasta salad and rolls. In addition to this typical menu, the school is also serving gator bites.
“I said I’d look into the feasibility of it and let them know. We looked into how much it would cost and decided it was something we could definitely do. We surveyed the junior and senior classes and found the majority of kids like the idea. I think most kids understand it’s for fun and just an extra little something to make their Prom night memorable,” said Jones.
Prom tickets will be available from April 1 through April 15. Tickets for underclassmen, juniors and guests will be $40; tickets for seniors will be $10. To purchase tickets you will need to see High School Treasurer Shawna Walker, followed by going to Junior Class Sponsor Summer Hudelson to sign up for a table.
Along with Prom, students can also sign up for Grand March. Grand March is free to the students who want to participate. They can go in groups, with partners or even individually. Students may sign up from April 1 to April 19, and forms are available in Grand March Coordinator Melissa Higgins’ room, room 101. The event is free of charge for students attending Prom, and a $3 admission fee for anyone else who is coming to watch.
“Grand March is a chance for students to ‘strut their stuff’ on the stage. Participants can be announced with their date, or with a friend. It is also a great opportunity for your family to see you in your Prom attire,” said Higgins.
Although Prom is still a bit far away, students are getting excited. Jones is already getting Prom decoration assignments to students in his art classes to help prepare.
