How To: Stay Safe

In May seniors at Paoli High School will no longer be seniors. They will be college freshmen or at least most of them will be. That also means they will be on their own a lot more and need to know how to defend themselves if a situation presents itself where self-defense is
necessary.
Here are 10 tips from Dallas PD to help protect yourself and stay aware of your surroundings. Don’t always show your location on social media because you never know who could be looking.
Tip 1: Stay prepared, you never know when a situation might present itself.
Tip 2: Try your best not to walk alone at night.
Tip 3: Know your way around campus and around the city.
Tip 4: Don’t leave a party alone.
Tip 5: Take a self-defense class. Hopefully, you will never need what you learn but it wouldn’t hurt to learn a few moves.
Tip 6: Don’t share your daily routine or class schedule with anyone unless you know them.
Tip 7: Know where the local and campus Police departments are in case you ever need to go there.
Tip 8: Use your senses if the situation or the person feels off then trust your gut.
Tip 9: Lock your doors, whether it is your house or your car make sure to keep everything locked.
Tip 10: Know your friends and their lifestyles, college is a great place to make new friends but you need to get to know them and who they really are before you get too comfortable.

How To: Get Organized

YOUR BACKPACK
Folders: Have a folder for every one of your classes and only put the papers from the class in their designated folder.
Binders: Binders are also a great way to keep all of your papers organized and neat, making it easy to find what you need quickly.
Some sort of pencil holder, or designated place for stationary. This will ensure that you know where a pencil/pen is at all times and you’ll easily be prepared.
YOUR LOCKER
Locker organizers: these are an essential part of organizing your locker. When you take things out of your bag, it makes it easier to find what you need.
Hooks: Most lockers have hooks already in them but, extra hooks may be helpful too. This gives you more space to hang things up instead of piling them on top of each other.
Shelves: Shelving is a good way to have separate places to set your things.
YOUR CAR
Car trash can: this gives you a place to put your trash instead of in your floorboards!
Organize your consoles: Have designated spaces for your extra coins, napkins, straws, or whatever else you may keep in your car!
Organize Your glovebox: Keep all your important documents close
together in your glovebox and don’t throw unnecessary items into your glovebox to hide them away! USE THE TRASH CAN!
