Thursday, March 7, is SAT testing day for juniors, and because of this, the day will be different for all students depending on their grades. To keep a steady internet connection, other grades will be participating in other activities and traveling off campus for college visits.
All juniors taking the SAT must bring a charged Chromebook and the option of a snack and drink, although pizza will be provided. Cell phones, smart watches, or any other form of wireless device are not permitted in the testing area. After testing, juniors can participate in other activities for the rest of the day.
During SAT testing for juniors, freshmen and sophomores will be going on field trips to New Albany and Sellersburg for college visits. Based on the homeroom teacher, students will attend two out of three colleges: Purdue Global, Ivy Tech, and Indiana University Southeast. Sophomores will travel to Vincennes University to tour the Robotics Lab, Machine Lab, and Engineering Lab.
“We want kids to see there are plenty of options after high school. Students should not feel obligated to enter the workforce or go to the military straight after school. There are big schools, small schools, tech schools, and several others that they could attend to further their pathway or education,” said Early College Committee Member Carol Eubank.
Instead of leaving school, junior high students will remain on campus in class. They can not do school work or any other activity on their Chromebooks in case of Internet interference.
Seniors will also not be attending school on this day. They have the option to job shadow, go to work, or attend a college visit. All seniors must turn in a signed paper from their employer or admissions, or they will be counted absent.
