If you have been following Paoli basketball recently, you are familiar with senior Trey Rominger and junior Fletcher Cole. Rominger and Cole surpassed the 1,000-point milestone, making them the two newest members of the 1,000 Point Club here at PHS.
Rominger ended his career with 1,051 points, which tied him for the 21st spot on the all-time leading scoring list and tied for the 15th spot on the men’s all-time leading scoring list.
“It felt really good that I can be in the 1,000-point club,” Rominger said.
Rominger cracked the milestone during the Perry Central game on February 19. Cole also achieved this 1,000-point milestone earlier in the season against Mitchell on January 5. Cole, however, is still planning to rank higher on the all-time leading scoring list next season. He currently has 1,277 points, which will only go up after next season. Cole is placed at number 11 on the all-time leading scoring list and number 7 on the men’s all-time leading scoring list.
“It shows how much the work does pay off,” said Cole.
Cole wishes to become the all-time leading scorer next season and surpass Evan Seacat, who had 1,873 total points at the end of his senior year.
“It is quite an achievement to score over 1,000 points in your basketball career. It is pretty uncommon to have two of them on the same team, but it has happened numerous times over the years. Trey’s consistency is amazing. How consistent he has been from day to day, game to game, month to month, year to year is remarkable. Fletcher is definitely one of the best (if not the best) scorers that I have ever coached,” said Head Basketball Coach Dusty Cole. “These kids are some of your hardest-working players and are guys that have spent countless hours playing ball and practicing. Every so often, some of these young men accomplish milestones like scoring 1,000 career points. The most rewarding part might be watching how teammates, fans, and coaches all celebrate the accomplishment together.”
While Rominger’s basketball career at PHS may be over, it will still be remembered, and his name will still be on list. Cole will continue his career and keep grabbing more points to break more of his goals next year.
