Senior JAG student Zachary Henry won first place in the Regional JAG CDC competition in Public Speaking at the recent Career Development Conference at the French Lick Resort. This win earned him a spot at the State CDC competition at Ivy Tech Indianapolis on March 15.
The State JAG CDC competition differs slightly from the Regional competition in that more students compete in each category and more money can be won at this event. Henry and JAG Teacher Katie Cook arrived at the Ivy Tech campus at about 8 a.m. and began the public speaking presentations at around 10 a.m. After Henry finished speaking, they had lunch, went through about a two-hour award ceremony, and then headed home.
This year Henry did not place in the competition, but took away valuable lessons from the experience.
“If I had to do it a little differently I would have practiced a little more and refined my speech,” said Henry.
