On April 10, 99 eligible junior high students will attend a Rewards Trip at the Rock-N-Bowl.
The Rewards Trip is designed to reward students for passing grades and good behavior during the third nine weeks. To be eligible, junior high students must meet three requirements: No Fs, ISS, or OSS during the third set of the nine weeks. Other requirements include turning in a permission slip signed by a parent or guardian and $17. Permission slips and money were due by April 1.
Phones and electronic devices are allowed, but teachers are not responsible for tracking students’ devices.
It is recommended that students bring money, pack their lunch, or get a sack lunch from the cafeteria to eat during the field trip.
“I think reward field trips are a great incentive for students,” said Science Teacher Lori Stroud.
Stroud is a junior high teacher who has helped plan reward field trips for the past several years. She believes the incentives help meet teachers’ three main goals for reward field trips.
The three things teachers want to achieve are to improve grades, behavior, and attendance, and it is a bonus that both teachers and students get to enjoy a stress-free day.
“I have data from the past three years, and reward field trips improve attendance, discipline, and grades,” said Assistant Principal Adam Stroud.
Stroud has statistics to prove that these field trips are practical, making it likely that we will continue to have them in future years.
