In Law Enforcement Fundamentals, students learn how to handle situations as officers or first responders. They cover various topics to prepare for careers in law enforcement.
This semester, students participated in a 40-hour course that went through 12 chapters and many audio recordings of calls to improve their dispatch skills. On March 13, students were tested to see if they could earn a certification to become 911 dispatchers.
Students who earn certificates can use that knowledge to work as a 911 dispatcher, but may also help students get careers in other aspects of law enforcement and even in other fields.
“I hope those considering law enforcement use this to strengthen the chances of them getting the job they want after college, and also for students that are not sure to consider taking this class and using it somewhere. I also hope kids that took the class for fun consider using this class in their life skills later on,” said Law Enforcement teacher Paul Andry.
Thirty students were certified, and 16 of those were from Paoli and the rest from Springs Valley. Students received their scores anywhere between 4-6 weeks after taking it.
