On April 10, HOSA members traveled to the Indianapolis Downtown Hampton Inn and Convention Center for the HOSA Future Health Professionals Indiana State Leadership Conference.
Students who attended this event were junior Joshua Zapien and Rhiannon Pinnick, sophomore Aurora Hays, and freshmen Allison Livingston, Addilyn Payton, Cheyenne Carter, Ava Middleton and Aiyanna Hall.
The students studied and practiced skills with their Health Sciences Teacher, Mara Eisele Carrico, to compete against other students across Indiana. While at the event, they attended interactive, hands-on workshops and educational symposiums, listened to candidates for HOSA officer elections, and attended the awards ceremony on the last day.
The categories they compete in are Nurse Assisting, Medical Terminology, Behavioral Health, Nutrition, Growth and Development, and Health Career Display.
One junior in the group scored well enough to advance to the second round.
“Josh Zapien made it into the second round of Nurse Assisting. He represented Lost River Career Cooperative and Paoli High School very well. He is already looking forward to next year’s events,” said Health Sciences Teacher Mara Eisele Carrico.
Eisele Carrico is looking forward to next year.
¨The other seven students participated and are also looking forward to returning with the knowledge they have gained from this experience,” said Eisele Carrico.
