For four years, PHS has had a place for clothes if students need them. The JAG closet has seasonal clothing, like winter coats, gloves, shoes, and everyday things like sweatshirts and shirts. JAG has been a huge help for students who forget a sweatshirt and are cold; they can go to the JAG closet to warm up.
To prepare for the summer months, JAG is having a warm-weather clothes giveaway before the summer so students can get some new clothes to take home.
Katie Cook runs JAG. The giveaway will be held in the JAG room from Thursday, May 2, through May 3.
“The purpose of the giveaway is to clean out our inventory for summer. We just don’t have room to store it all summer and move it around when they clean the rooms,” said Cook.
Cook knows that the students who need clothing in the summer can not just stop by the closet, so the giveaway can help kids even when they are away from school.
“We want to help students can stock up on summer clothing. The closet is available anytime for students during the school year, but for summer, obviously, that’s not possible. So we want to help them prepare for the summer months should they need any clothing to get them through. We also have clothing that may not necessarily be ‘dress code approved’ but they can be worn over the summer such as shorts, tank tops, or dresses,” said Cook.
The JAG Clothes Closet has helped numerous students during the school year.
“We get a lot of students to come down from the Art Department or the Ag Department when they have spilled paint on themselves or got dirty working with the pigs. Many students get t-shirts or hoodies depending on the temperature in different classrooms. Students get their socks wet if they walk to school in the rain,” said Cook.
The Cook and the JAG students see the Clothing Closet as a big success for their program.
“I am proud to say that we are able to accommodate most of the reasons that students visit the closet. It’s definitely worth the time and effort the JAG students spend working on it. As you can see, JAG has been a huge help and Will continue to be,” said Cook.
