On Sunday, May 5, the United States History College Credit class held the annual “Night at the Museum” with this year’s theme being “Disasters Have History.”
Five judges evaluated each exhibit the students created, with a chance for each student to win a cash prize. The awards presented for the night were “Best of Show-Gold Award” given by the Orange County Historical Society to Taylor Patton, “Reserve Best of Show- Silver Award” given by Lost River Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution to Jonny Shellenberger, “Reserve Best of Show-Bronze Award” sponsored by Chris and Michelle Lindley to Brian Fullington, “Hoosier Heritage Award,” also given by Mr. and Mrs. Lindley won by Jonny Shellenberger, who also won the final award of the night, “People’s Choice.”
The theme, chosen by Lindley, is carefully thought out each year.
“I always want something from the 20th century and I was tired of doing more limited approaches. I wanted to broaden the topics, and disasters was a great topic because it covered the entire 20th century,” said Lindley.
Patton put immense work into ensuring her project was well-put together.
“I was really happy about how it turned out and I was proud of all the work I put into making my exhibit,” said Patton.
Overall, the event went well, with nearly every student exceeding expectations.
“The group was actually very impressive. There were many interactive features included and there were imaginative exhibits that explore the inequality and racism as an aspect disasters, which was an outstanding historical effort and really emphasized the true history of some of the exhibits,” said Lindley.
