Senior tennis player Maddi Warren started playing the sport she loves in third grade. Whether watching her older sister Alyssa play tennis or playing herself, these past ten years of her life have been filled with tennis.
Warren has been playing varsity all four years of high school. As a freshman, she played No. 3 singles, but from sophomore through senior year, she played No. 1 singles. Coming into junior year, her teammates voted her to be the team captain.
Coach Tyla Whitfield knew Warren would be a great captain.
“I knew she would be able to handle the responsibilities of a team captain and felt confident in her leadership abilities,” said Whitfield.
Whitfield said her captain is always a positive influence.
“She has been an encouraging leader who pushes team members to give their best performance on the court and be supportive of one another off the court,” said Whitfield.
Warren is now finishing her senior season and is very thankful for the opportunity to be the team captain.
“My experience has been amazing! I love connecting with the girls, and knowing they can trust me as their captain makes me feel like I’m doing something right,” said Warren.
She said that being a captain helped her out personally, too.
“Something I will take away from being captain is the leadership role I had to fill. In life, it’s better to be a leader than a follower. You don’t always have to fit in, be yourself and be unique,” said Warren.
