Students will once again be able to exempt their final exams for some classes this year by maintaining their grades and attendance during the semester.
Students can earn exemptions by maintaining a course grade of 70% or above every nine weeks in the semester, and must meet that specific course’s grade and attendance requirements. The policy also requires students to have less than four absences (excused or unexcused) during the semester.
Students in dual credit courses may not be eligible for exemption due to college requirements for taking a final exam for the university. However, some exempt students can take final exams to adjust their semester grades.
“It gives an incentive to be here and active in their education. Studies show that a 94% attendance rating is one of the greatest growth factors in a student’s knowledge,” said Assistant Principal Adam Stroud.
The full description of the final exam exemption policy can be found on pages 8-9 in the student handbook.
