This year’s PHS Varsity cheer squad was decided at the end of May. The members have been working hard and practicing all summer to prepare for this year’s football season.
At the end of the summer, the team selected seniors Taylor Patton and Chloe Smith as this year’s Varsity Cheer Captains. Patton and Smith have important roles to fulfill.
Smith has been cheerleading for all four years of high school.
“My favorite memory was winning the basketball sectionals at Tell City against Eastern Pekin my freshman year,” said Smith.
Patton has been cheering for Varsity Cheer for three years.
Patton learned many things while being a cheerleader but there have been some things that have stuck with her.
“I have learned how to be a better leader and communicate with other girls my age to get stuff done and have a memorable season,” said Patton.
Head Varsity Cheer Coach Heather Nichols has positive things to say about her new leaders this season.
“I have been very impressed with my captains this year. They seem to handle problems well and they are making a very positive impact on the squad,” said Nichols.
