As our nation moves closer and closer to Election Day, much of the news is focused on who will win this year’s local, state, and highly political presidential race.
The candidates sometimes share conflicting opinions on what is right and wrong in our society and have different views on how they will fix those problems.
We polled our staff on three points: what voters should focus on when selecting a candidate, what problems we want the next president to tackle, and who they want to see elected. Many of our staff are not yet old enough to vote but still have opinions about who will lead our country in the next four years leading up to when our staff will be of voting age in the 2028 election.
We asked about the topics that should be considered when selecting which candidates we stand for.
To get a general consensus of our political ideas as a group, we asked a number of questions to see where our priorities are as citizens. The future of our nation’s economic well-being was easily the most vocally expressed issue that our staff wants voters to focus on when deciding on a presidential candidate. We recognize that in recent years, our financial security has been put into question on multiple fronts, such as the issues regarding the housing market, an increase in taxes all across the board, the rise in inflation, and the average age of retirement creeping towards the late 60s. This has led to a majority of our staff recognizing economics to be an important issue that needs to be considered when voting, as it decides the future of the lives of not only our staff but also the lives of the generations to come after us.
Aside from the economic issues, our staff was overwhelmingly concerned with the social issues that have been plaguing our country for centuries. A large portion of our staff answered that they heavily encouraged voters to take into account the rights of all Americans, especially the rights of women, immigrants, and other commonly discriminated groups, and to vote for their presidential candidate with these demographics in mind. Many of the dividing issues that have surfaced within these past elections have been societal, and are often motivated by exclusive groups that promote division, and our staff strongly stands against that. As a collective, we believe in unity, equal rights, and inclusivity, and believe that issues surrounding these values should be taken into consideration when deciding the candidate for any political position, especially the presidency.
Moreover, our staff generally encourages all voters to look into each candidate as a person and make their judgments based on the quality of character that each contender holds. We believe that historically, it is up to the people who exhibit dedication, leadership, and strong moral character to lead this nation, and it is vital to the success of our countries to vote these candidates into office.
Our staff also discussed what prominent issues in America that we wanted our future President to focus on as our nation moves forward. Once again, the most important issue to our staff was the security of our economy. We want to see actions taken to improve the financial stability of our nation, and a president who is willing to make sacrifices for the betterment of the country.
A large portion of our staff also wants to see some action taken on many of the foreign policy issues that our country withholds today; mostly, America’s affiliation with wars. The general opinion of our staff is that we as a nation should keep out of business that does not involve us, and in the event that intervention is a necessity, America is fighting on the side of the good guys.
Lastly, to get an opinion on what candidate our staff is promoting the most, we asked what candidate we’d most encourage others to vote for. Some members were very vocal about which candidate they sided with, however, the overall consensus of our staff favored neither prominent candidate in this upcoming election, as many of our staff members feel as if they are not educated enough on these political matters to form a concrete opinion.
Nonetheless, it was agreed upon by our staff that regardless of the winner of this presidential election, we hope to see them build America up in every aspect, and do so with no corners cut, and as little sacrifices made as possible.
