Many people join the military for different reasons, some for familial ties, others because they have no other drive, and some do it for the honor that lies in defending their home country.
Senior Hayden Bostock is just one of the many future soldiers of America who accept their roles in defending the land of the free and the home of the brave.
Bostock plans on joining the Air Force right out of high school to be a combat controller.
“I want to be a combat controller and I want to do that job just because I get to give information to the pilots and let them know precise locations of things, ” said Bostock.
Deciding to enlist in the military was not a new idea for Bostock. He has been waiting for this opportunity since his freshman year of high school.
He plans to spend 20 years in the Air Force and retire with nice benefits.
“It is just something I wanted to do since my freshman year and I get to get out of Paoli and make my mom proud,” said Bostock.
The military enlisting process is lengthy and can be very demanding.
Bostock has already taken his ASVAB, an academic test for future military soldiers, and he has also completed his physical requirements through the MEPS examination.
With all these tasks completed, Bostock still has a little way to go before officially joining the U.S. Air Force.
“If I want to become a combat controller then I will have to go to Louisville and test my swimming attributes and then follow the process with a recruiter from there,” said Bostock.
Although there are other students planning to possibly pursue the military path, Bostock has taken the initiative early and completed many of the requirements already. However, hopefully, as the school year continues we can see more paths begin to unfold for other students.
