For all 2025 graduates, this is essential information.
Next Thursday, December 19, is FAFSA night. FAFSA is a financial aid service that all graduates are REQUIRED to complete by the time they graduate. It can be complicated and confusing for people who have never done it before, so this night is designed to help students and their families through the process. It will be from 5 to 7 in the PHS library.Â
Before students and parents attend FAFSA night, there are some preliminary steps to take to file the FAFSA that night. The first step is for the student to create a StudentAid.gov account at least three days before filing their FAFSA.
Then, the student will need to check their dependency status on StudentAid.gov, and the parents will also need to create a username and password on StudentAid.gov.
The next step is to double-check the students’ accounts to ensure they work correctly. Parents can sign in to StudAid.gov to check that all their information is correct.
After the preliminary steps are done, everything should be ready for FAFSA night. According to our School Counselor, Rachel Robinson, representatives from INvested will be at FAFSA night to help families file the FAFSA.
Along with that information, Robinson advises people to bring their 2023 tax forms to help fill out the FAFSA. Again, families may arrive at any time between five and seven p.m. and expect the actual filing of the FAFSA to take about 30 minutes. If you need any help with the preliminary steps, make sure to contact guidance. They will be able to help people with anything they need or any questions they may have relating to the FAFSA.
