On Wednesday, January 8, the next short day activity, PHS Got Talent, will be held in the Ruth Farlow Uyesugi Auditorium. This is the third rendition of this event, however some slight changes are being planned. If you would like to participate in this talent show, you can pitch your act to the organizers of the show through a Google form on a slideshow sent to everyone’s email from Mr. Lindley.
These acts can be done as individuals or by entire groups. The acts need to be anywhere from 3-5 minutes long and must be school-appropriate. For the actual day of the talent show, only 10-12 acts are able to perform. In the event that more than 10-12 acts sign up to perform, there may be a preliminary elimination round held before the actual early release day in January.
“If we end up having over 10-12 acts we are going to have this preliminary round. This round would be like an audition for the actual show and will be held with judges to score the potential performers,” said Lindley.
Those who want to show their talents but do not want to perform in front of the entire school may sign up to have a non-performance talent presented at the talent show for people to see, such as an art piece, carving, or drawing. These pieces will be displayed in the auditorium for people to see. Since the two categories of non-performance and performance talents are quite different, they are going to be judged in two separate categories.
Another difference between this years and last year’s talent show is how the teachers are judged. As of now, the teachers are allowed to participate but purely to show their talent. The teachers will not be on the voting ballot and their performances will be considered just an exhibition. Many students had issues with the voting system last year, prompting the changes. But now the judging system has been altered to deliver the most fair results.
The winners of the talent show are going to be decided by judges for both categories, and a People’s Choice will be awarded for both categories as well.
