The Winter Varsity sports have all been in action lately.
First up is the Varsity Lady Rams basketball team, with a record of 2-6.
“I think the season has been good. Our record may not be the best, but we have played really tough opponents the first couple of games,” said senior Lilly Hall.
The Lady Rams have been dealing with a bit of adversity. Junior Maddie Vernon, a two-year starter, injured her knee again. Because of her injury, Maddie is unable to return to this year’s basketball season, so The Lady Rams have had freshman Jayda Smith and junior Tariana Burkhead step up and play different roles. The leading scorers for the Lady Rams are seniors Jericho Hopper, who averages 10 points per game, and Lilly Hall, who averages 6 points per game.
The Rams are coming off a loss against the Edgewood Mustangs and are next traveling to play the Clarksville Generals on Tuesday, December 17.
Varsity Wrestling is competing in a lot of meets right now. On December 14, they traveled to Northview for a tournament.
The Rams went 0-5 in the tournament, with many guys competing well. The Rams have had a couple of injuries, including senior leader Jonny Shellenberger, who had surgery on his ear. Shellenberger returned for the tournament and went 5-0 as an individual. Jonny and the wrestling team are currently preparing for their Holiday Tournament over Winter Break.
“I have to watch what I eat all throughout winter break and we have practice every morning except for Christmas, so I am keeping everything the same as if we weren’t on break,” said Shellenberger.
The Varsity Boys’ Basketball team is doing well and starting the season with a record of 3-0. The Rams have played excellent basketball with a score margin of 203-115.
The leading scorers for the Rams are senior Fletcher Cole, averaging 28 points per game, and junior Chad Sullivan, 10 points per game. On Friday, December 20, the Rams will head to Austin for their next match-up against the Eagles.
