This year, the IHSAA has started recognizing schools’ sportsmanship.
Schools with 100 points are placed in the “First Team All-Sportsmanship” category, and schools with 95 points are placed in the “Honorable Mention All-Sportsmanship” category.
Each school begins the school year with 100 points. Points are acquired by completing an online NFHS Sportsmanship Course, having parental meetings, having student attendance at fall principals’ meetings, and having more leadership opportunities. Points are taken away by contest ejections of players, coaches, administrators, and fans.
This year, Paoli earned the “First Team All-Sportsmanship” category.
“Sportsmanship is very important to me. I am very proud of the fact that we were recognized for our sportsmanship,” said Athletic Director Darek Newkirk. “We achieved this by not losing sportsmanship points and by gaining sportsmanship points through the IHSAA.”
Beginning this year, school administrators can monitor their scores on the member schools-only myIHSAA website.
