Last semester, the FFA team went to the state for Entomology for the first time in 20 years.
The FFA team left for state on Friday, December 13, traveling to Lafayette, Indiana, to attend the competition at Purdue University.
The team consisted of Liam Bissonnette, Hope Roach, Aubrey Staggs, Raleigh Klunk, and Caleb Bowles.
“I’m confident in this team. Hope and Liam are our top team members,” said FFA Sponsor Samantha Goen.
On their way there, they stopped at Rossville High School for a practice competition. Then, they headed to Purdue.
At state, the Etymology team competed at the state level, putting their knowledge to the test. They had to know 50 common insect names and their orders. They also had to participate in a quiz over the various insect species, focusing on integrated pest management and control measures. They went around to different tables, trying to identify each insect.
Entomology Career Development aims to increase the youth’s understanding of insects and their role in ecosystems.
“Our team worked hard and were proud of their dedication to learning about the insects and how to manage pests effectively. These four did a great job! We are already looking forward to next year,” said Goen.
