Winning a GRAMMY is one of the most prestigious honors in the music industry. Only a select few musicians have ever been nominated for a GRAMMY, let alone won one. But Aubrey Drake Graham has won five GRAMMY awards, along with having 102 nominations. But for some very crazy and ridiculous reason, this past year he was nominated for zero GRAMMYs, which should be a crime, because Drake is a lyrical genius. Drake also has had the number one song on the Billboard Top 100 13 times in 2024, and 78 top hits.
To steal a line from the NBA’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander who said, “his whole life was consistent.” That’s also basically Drake’s music career since he began to make music. He has been consistently one of the top artists every single year. He hasn’t declined any, and he is still at the top of his game. He continues to show how talented he is with his lyrics, storytelling, rhythm, and so much more.
But like I said, Drake was nominated for no awards in 2025. In the GRAMMY committee’s defense, Drake only released one song last year, but the song he released was “No Face,” which has tons of plays on every big music platform. Drake also had a few songs he was featured in, and those songs are also very popular and listened to by a lot of people.
Now I’m not crazy. I will acknowledge that there were other good songs released this year. But Drake’s one song was good enough to be nominated and even win a GRAMMY. Now, I know that’s not really how the GRAMMY works, and it’s usually based on a whole body of work within that year, not just a singular song. I’m just saying that every other artist is lucky Drake didn’t drop an album this last year, because if he did, it would have been over for everyone else.
The next topic of discussion that helps my argument is the halftime show. After we all had to watch that absolute disaster of a halftime show performed by Kendrick Lamar, it is even easier to see how Drake is on a different level than Kendrick. The halftime show also showed how Drake’s one song dropped in 2024 was better than Kendrick’s whole performance. Honestly, I wish Drake would have performed at the halftime show, and if he did maybe my ears wouldn’t still be hurting from that performance by Kendrick.
Now transitioning to the new year, I know we are only about a month into 2025 but according to Spotify, through January, Drake is the most-streamed hip hop artist this year. This is incredible, especially considering that he has not dropped an album in two years other than his most recent. He still has songs from 2011 that are more listened to than some of the top artists’ brand new songs and albums. This just goes to show how amazing Drake is, and how many people love him and his music.
As for his new album, I think it is also great. This album truly showcased how versatile Drake is with his music, and continues to prove why Drake is the undisputed greatest of all time when it comes to Hip Hop. I can not wait to see what else Drake has in store for the future.
