Wednesday, January 8, was planned as a half-day for the annual PHS Talent Show. However, a snowstorm canceled the entire school week. Because of this, the Talent Show had to be rescheduled. History Teacher Chris Lindley planned this event and rescheduled it for Friday, January 24.
On Friday, the people selected to be in the Talent Show performed on stage in the morning. There were judges to determine who won, along with a student’s choice award. The junior class dominated the judge’s choices with Cannon Lambdin taking first place, Brooklyn Weber earning second, and third place was given to Jace Cleek.
Lambdin performed “Hot Chocolate” on the drums from “The Polar Express.” Weber performed the song “At Last” by Etta James and Cleek performed many different songs on the guitar.
“I was surprised to place first. This past Christmas, I had the opportunity to fill in as a conductor on the Polar Express train ride. From that event, I learned the hot chocolate song like the back of my hand. From there, I just thought it’d be fun to add some drum action to it. I had fully decided what to do about two days prior to the talent show, with about two practice run-throughs. What was really cool, though, was seeing all the other performances, most of which came from my junior classmates,” said Lambdin.
Students were also asked to vote on their favorites and they awarded eighth grader Hayden Higdon first place as he sang the song “Straight and Narrow” by Sam Barber. Second place was awarded to junior Chad Sullivan who sang “Someone Like You” by Adele, and third place was given to sophomore Avalynn Slaten who sang “Soap” by Melanie Martinez.
Students were selected this year based on their performances, and an email was sent to inform them. All students who participated were given a sheet of the judges’ scoring. While this annual Talent Show has come to a close, it is expected that bigger and better things are to come in next year’s very own PHS’s Got Talent.
