Winter Sports season is closing, with the Rams heading into Sectional play next week. Currently, the boy’s team has a record of 18-2 (as of press date), and a record of 4-0 in PLAC Conference play, with wins against West Washington, Orleans, Springs Valley, and Perry Central.
The Rams will host the IHSAA Sectional 46 play from March 4-8. Tickets for the event will be available at the door for $7. The Rams play the Crawford County Wolfpack on Wednesday.
This year’s tournament, like the Lady Rams earlier this month, has the team facing more familiar opponents than in years past after the IHSAA redrew the tournaments.
Included in the tournament this year are the Clarksville Generals (5-15), Crawford County Wolfpack (4-16), Eastern (Pekin)Musketeers (6-15), Mitchell Blue Jackets(14-7), Providence Pioneers (14-4), and Salem Lions (6-14). For the first round, one game will be played on March 4 at 7 p.m.; on March 5, games two and three will be played at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
“I feel great about going into the tournament and I really like our chances in our Sectional” said senior Fletcher Cole.
The Lady Rams finished their year in the first round of Sectional with a loss to Eastern Pekin on February 2, scoring 37-66. The Sectional was held at Crawford County High School, and the Lanesville Eagles took home the title.
The Lady Rams finished the regular season with a record of 9-13.
“One thing I will take with me everywhere I go in life is something our coaching staff had been coaching us on since I was in fifth grade, ‘when it comes down to the wire, it takes heart and effort with a strong work ethic to win at the end of the night, you have to stay disciplined.’ That is what our coaches engraved in my head and I will always have a strong work ethic, I will always have heart, and in everything I do I will always put forth effort. I owe a huge thank you to my coaching staff for instilling that in me. Thank you, Coaches,” said senior Jericho Hopper.

After their Sectional performance, the Rams wrestling team finished their season on February 8, with senior Jonny Shellenberger qualifying for Regional in the 157 lbs. class. Shellenberger would go on to Regional the following week but was defeated by Hunter Fender (Bloomington South).
“I loved all four years of wrestling and I am with all that I accomplished. I am taking away a lot of great memories from wrestling at PHS,” said Shellenberger.
