The movie The Notebook is one of my favorite romantic love stories. Nicholas Sparks wrote the book in 1994 and made it into a film in 2004. The story is about two young people, Noah, played by Ryan Gosling, and Allie, played by Rachel McAdams, who meet and fall in love, but family expectations and war challenge their love.
The two meet at an amusement park in the 1940s in South Carolina. Noah asks her out on the Ferris wheel and won’t take no for an answer. They quickly fall in love and spend the summer together. Allie’s parents didn’t want her to be with him because he was a mill worker and not from a wealthy family like Allie. Once the summer ended, her parents made her move, and Noah went to serve in World War II, ending their relationship.
Allie becomes a nurse during the war and meets another man named Lon, played by James Marsden. They later get engaged. Then, Allie sees a picture of Noah in the newspaper, sparking her love for him. So she meets him, and it becomes clear to both of them that their romance is not over. In the end, the two end up getting married.
Many years later, when Allie is in the nursing home, Noah comes and reads to her daily, and the Notebook becomes the story of how they fell in love. He hopes she will remember their story since her memory has been lost because she has dementia.
There are many things I love about this movie. It’s a love story. Noah is so sweet and romantic to her because he writes her letters.
I love “The Notebook”, but some may say it is cheesy. They might say that the couple didn’t look like they were a good couple. I disagree with people who don’t like the movie because I think they are a great couple. I would recommend this movie to anyone who loves a great love story.
