In two short weeks it will be time for the annual Junior-Senior Prom. Prom will be held on April 26, starting at 7 p.m. in the lower gym.
This year’s Prom theme will be “Stormy Seas and Starry Nights,” featuring pirate and deep-sea decor and is for upperclassmen and invited underclassmen. Junior class officers President Madison Collier, Vice President Tori Patton, Treasurer Maddie Vernon, and Secretary Cooper Spires are making all the decisions about the event.
Sponsors Chris Jones and Summer Hudelson lead the junior class.
Jones’ art classes will be handling the making of the props and decorations for the prom.
“We knew we wanted pirates but needed to have more variation, so we decided on Stormy Seas and Starry Nights,” said Collier.
Hudelson is in charge of the ticket and table sign-ups, unlike in previous years, when she was in charge of table sign-ups only. Ticket sales and table sign-ups will start on April 7 and will be on sale until April 21. Tickets are $10 for seniors; others attending will purchase tickets for $40.
“In order to get the table you want, it is recommended that you sign up early,” said Hudelson.
All juniors and seniors planning to attend Prom attended a meeting during homeroom on April 4 to discuss the Prom’s basic rules and procedures and how they should behave during the dance.
Before the Prom begins, the annual Grand March, sponsored by NHS, will occur in the Uyesugi Auditorium.
“The students will get introduced either with their dates or their friends, each student will walk onto the stage (in their formal wear) from separate sides of the stage, meet in the middle, and strike a pose,” said NHS Sponsor Melissa Higgins.
After Prom will be held immediately after the dance until 2 a.m. in the upper gym. At After Prom, there will be many activities, including a photo booth, an inflatable obstacle course, laser tag equipment and course, bingo, a comedic hypnotist show, and prize drawings. The Lions Club will provide pizza, chips, and drinks, and there will also be the option for cotton candy. Attending students can pick from any activities, but they must attend the hypnotist show from 12:30 to 1:30 a.m. Following the show will be a prize drawing, which will wrap up after Prom.
