Like many schools in Indiana, PHS hosts specific groups of classes called pathways. Pathways, also known as CTE Concentrators, allow students to individualize their graduation requirements to align with their goals for after high school (enrollment, employment, or enlistment). They offer a flexibility beyond the traditional academic mold.
For the 2025-2026 school year, PHS will offer many pathway options, including Agriculture (Plants, Animals, and Natural Resources), Automotive, Construction, Criminal Justice, Culinary Arts, Education Professions, Fire Science, Health Sciences, and Welding, as well as two locally created pathways: Band and Art.
There are changes that are being made to the pathways for the next school year, with one pathway that may be added and a few that may be removed.
“A new potential CTE concentrator that may be offered next school year is Business Management. If there is enough student interest, this new pathway will be added. We are excited to potentially offer a new course that we feel meets the interest of many students and their potential career path,” said School Counselor Rachel Robinson.
There are many reasons that some pathways may be removed.
“Due to new graduation requirements and resources, we are in the process of evaluating all our pathways to ensure they align with student interest, workforce demand, and available resources,” said Principal Ed Wagner. “Some pathways may be phased out due to low enrollment, changes in state requirements, or shifts in industry needs. Our goal is to provide students with the most relevant and impactful opportunities to prepare them for future careers. While some pathways may be removed, we are also exploring ways to strengthen existing programs and introduce new opportunities that better serve our students and community.”
