John D. Cook Field Dedication & Scholarship Kick-Off
September 16, 2013
The re-dedication of John D. Cook Field will be this Friday at 6:45 p.m. before the home Varisty game against West Washington. The football field will be re-dedicated in the fallen Marine’s honor during a brief ceremony. Cook played football at Paoli before his graduation in 1963.
After leaving high school, he joined the Marines and was killed in action during the Vietnam War in 1966, just a few days before his scheduled discharge.
The event will help to highlight the Cpl. John D. Cook Memorial Scholarship set up in his honor.
Members of a national military-themed motorcycle group known as Rolling Thunder will be in Paoli for the evening. The motorcyclists are expected to ride through Paoli before stopping at the Paoli Community Cemetery, which is Cook’s burial place and just east of the PHS football field.
