Q&A: Kesterson a FlyGirl to watch

Junior Victoria Kesterson is has a very special hobby. Kesterson is part of the school’s dance team called FlyGirls.  She’s been a part of it for two years, and hoping to continue doing it.

Q: Why did you join dance in the first place?
A: Because it’s a passion, it’s my passion. I like it, it’s my hobby.

Q: What is your job on the dance team?
A:  I choreograph some dances.

Q: What are your thoughts about the other members of the dance team?
A: I think we all work really well together. I think whenever were all at practices, we’re like family. But, I think we all get frustrated with each other, and don’t work well with each other sometimes.

Q: How do you think the other members help you in a way?
A: I think the girls push me to do better because; a lot of them are really, really good. So, I want to step it up and be the best that I can be.

Q: What are your feelings when you go through cuts?
A: I don’t really get nervous, I’m pretty confident. It’s just like another day at practice.

Q: How do you think you’ve improved over time?
A: I think dance has made me work well with others, and care about other people other than myself. Also, my timing’s better. I count my steps better.  I feel like I get the steps down really quick, and remembering them.

Q: What are you emotions when you dance?
A: It’s fun I mean, it’s just a fun time. I guess it’s hard to count the steps in your head, remember the moves, remember where you need to be and when you need to be there. Also, making sure you’re with all the other girls. So… it’s stressful sometimes.

Q: How do you feel when you dance in front a crowd?
A: Really, really nervous!!!!!!!!!!!

Q: Do you feel like you’re a leader to other people? Why?
A: I have friends on the dance team so when they struggle I try really, really, really hard to help them.

Q: What is your favorite part about dancing?
A: I like how I can express my emotions. Like reliving stress from your body.

Q: What’s your favorite part about the dance team?
A: My favorite part about dance team is the practices because you get to be with your friends for an hour and a half every Monday and Wednesday. You have a great time doing something together.

Q: Have you made friends on the team?
A: Yeah, I think I’ve gotten a lot closer to the girls. I think the main people I’ve bonded with would be: June Hobson, Morgan Dotts, Olivia King and Tori Mills. I get along with all of the girls, but those are the girls I mainly bond with.

Q: How did you dance in the past?
A: I danced at Just Dance Academy when I was four. It was a mixture of things like a whole bunch of: tap, ballet, lyrical and hip hop put together. Then I did belly dancing at Tumble Time.

Q: What are you favorite songs to dance to?
A: I like “Va Va Voom” a lot.

Q: What are your favorite dances?
A: I like Cassidy’s (senior Cassidy Daugherty) dance ( “Va Va Voom”) a lot because, it’s the first dance we learned so we know it better.

Q: How do you think you’ll dance as a senior?
A: I think I will take it more seriously. Like I’ll push myself and challenge myself to do better, because I will be a senior. I’ll be influencing my younger classmates.

Q: Do you think you’ll dance in the future? Where? Why?
A: I’m not sure. Like, I don’t want to pursue a career in dance, but I’d be something fun to do alongside a job. Just like something for fun, just for exercise.
