On Saturday, February 8, the PHS band will be traveling to Jasper Middle School for the annual Solo and Ensemble Festival. This event is open to high school and junior high students who would like a chance to showcase their musical abilities in front of a judging panel.

Students can play up to five different pieces for the event, including solos, trios and different ensembles. Participants are critiqued on intonation, tone, rhythm, technique, interpretation, articulation and performance factors.

Paoli Band Program has 105 events signed up for Solo Ensemble this year, and 11 of our students have done a great job in getting the basics of the music performing so far. The next two weeks will really sort out those who are dedicated to the practice regiment, as they will begin to ‘shine’ on their music,” said music teacher Bill Laughlin.

After their performance, students will be given a rating. The ratings available include gold, silver, bronze and participation. Any students who receive a gold rating in a Group I event, which is the highest level, will be able to advance to State Solo and Ensemble at North Central High School in Indianapolis on February 29.
