Before Spring Break, PHS received a donation of 100 Stop the Bleed Kits from the Emergency and Trauma Services at the Jasper Memorial Hospital Foundation. Each high school and elementary school teacher will get one kit to keep in their emergency bag.
These kits will be useful to students and teachers to help stop someone from bleeding out when they get injured. Anyone can access them because every teacher will receive one. We might need them anytime throughout the day, or if we have a field trip or are outside the classroom, to keep the injured person safe until they receive help from medical professionals.
School Nurse Emme Moore sees these kits as crucial to saving a life if someone on campus experiences a traumatic event.
“Exsanguination is the most common cause of death from a traumatic injury as, on average, it only takes 3-5 minutes for someone to bleed out. By decreasing the amount of time to locate a Stop the Bleed kit and administer treatment to someone with traumatic bleeding, we can potentially prevent someone from dying,” said Moore.
