For the first time since 2007, the Core 40 Indiana Diploma track is being changed.
The Indiana Department of Education first presented it on March 27 to streamline the number of high school diplomas in Indiana. The initial redesign of the diploma had become the target of significant backlash within the Indiana educational community and partially by the non-educational community.
After much backlash, the Indiana Department of Education revised the first draft. This revised second draft was first presented in August.
The second draft of this diploma change has been published in the Indiana Register, which means the second statutorily required public comment period has begun.
This gives the public a chance to comment on these changes to the diploma. However, if anyone has anything to say about these changes, they must do so by Friday, November 8.
People can give their feedback on these diploma changes via Jotform. However, if they would prefer to give their feedback in person, the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE)/State Board of Education (SBOE) staff will hold an in-person hearing on the same day that the comment period ends.
This hearing will be at 10 a.m. in the Indiana Government Center South Conference Room B. Anyone can attend the meeting. Any comments from the public, in person or online via Jotform, will be recorded and provided to SBOE members as part of the rulemaking process before the final draft can be done. Again, if anyone has concerns about the diploma changes, they can participate in person, in the online hearing, or through Jotform to express their worries.
