On Saturday, March 1, the Pride of Paoli concert band members traveled to North Central High School to compete for medals in the ISSMA State Solo and Ensemble competition. Ten students completed and brought home numerous medals for their performances.
Senior Rylee McKenna played a trumpet solo called “Episode” By David L. Walters. Rylee also played a Flugelhorn solo called “ll vecchio Castello” by Modest Mussorgsky. She received two gold medals with distinction.
Junior Cannon Lambdin performed movement 1 of “Sonata for Timpani” by John Beck and got a gold medal.
Sophomore Nathaniel Dixon played a trumpet solo called “Andante et Allegro” by J. Guy Ropartz. He got a gold medal with a perfect score.
Senior Jacob Young played a euphonium solo called “English Suite” by Bernard Fitzgerald and received a gold medal.
Seniors Ava Green, Christian Longest, and Conner Bowman played a Mozart saxophone trio, “Rondo Allegro,” and received a silver medal.
Junior Brooklyn Weber performed a snare solo called “4th of July” by Jay Wanamaker and got a gold medal with distinction.
Senior Conner Bowman played a solo on his Tenor sax called “Sonata in C minor” by George Phillip Telemann and earned a silver medal.
Sophomore Sylas Washington was qualified to participate but did not. Director
“I thought they did an excellent job, and I hope they learned to be more prepared in the future,” said Band Director Christian Karkosky.
Next, the high school band students will compete in a concert contest in April.
