This year, Science Teacher Jeremy Reynolds has added a new computer science class to his teaching schedule. Students in 8th and 9th grade are required to take this course due to the state’s new diploma track.
Last year, Reynolds taught junior high science, but this year, his qualifications allowed him to add computer science to his schedule.
“I have business and technology on my license, as well as a Career and Technical Education endorsement, which qualifies me to teach the class,” said Reynolds.
Because of his qualifications, he was not surprised to be asked to teach the course.
“The state added Computer Science as a graduation requirement, and very few are licensed to teach it, so I knew it was coming,” said Reynolds.
Reynolds will teach a computer science curriculum with interactive projects at the end of each unit, challenging students to apply the skills they have learned.
“In the past, when I taught computer-based classes, it seemed the students learned very practical skills they could use every day. I’m not quite sure this class will be the same, but with the AI and coding content in the course, I am sure they will take something away from it that they can use,” said Reynolds.
