This fall, PE and Health teacher Summer Hudelson assumed a new role, replacing the retired culinary teacher, Debbie Andry.
“I was approached by Mr. Wagner in May about teaching one of Mrs. Andry’s classes after she retired this past school year,” said Hudelson.
This is Hudelson’s first year teaching culinary, even though she has taught for 23 years and has worn many hats as a teacher and coach.
“Throughout my career, I have taught junior high and high school PE and health classes. I have also coached junior varsity volleyball, varsity girls track, junior high volleyball, cross country, and girls golf,” said Hudelson.
Hudelson is excited to teach students new life skills.
“The students I have in class have different skill levels and cooking experience. The higher-level students are helping other students in class. Starting the year, we are doing basic cooking skills and kitchen safety,” said Hudelson. Hudelson has started her class by teaching the basics of cooking.
“We have been learning knife safety and how to make various cuts. Next week, we are making vegetable stir fry,” said Hudelson.
This year, Hudelson hopes that her students learn valuable life skills that can help them in the future.
