On October 9, students will participate in the 9th annual Service Day project. There will be 19 projects, including four new projects, for a total of 23 projects that students will help the community with. Media Teacher Heather Nichols organizes the day.
Some of the new projects include Librarian Rachel Miller pulling invasive weeds at Spring Mill State Park.
In school projects, another project is the Santa Workshop, led by English Teacher Alyssa Osborn, which will have students creating ornaments to make the holiday season more special, and Math Teacher Noelle Jean’s Warm up America project, where students crochet small rectangles, which will be stitched into blankets that will be donated to homeless shelters.
“I am always grateful for another year that we can give back to our community. Instructional time is so valuable to our students, but by taking one day to give back to a community that gives us so much, we are teaching kids that being of service is a valuable lesson,” said Nichols.
Nichols is currently organizing the groups, and students can expect to get their assignments by the last week of September.
