The Self Care Club is up and running for the year, providing opportunities for students to relax and take care of their minds and bodies during the school day.
Team Peace’s Kara Schmidt directs activities with the club, including breathing exercises and stretches to relax the body.
The club is open to students in grades 9-12 and meets various times each month. The Self Care Club takes place in the wrestling room and was established two years ago. This is a place where students can relax during homeroom and learn techniques to calm themselves when they are stressed.
High school students involved in self-care must have an extracurricular form on file in the office. High school students will listen for announcements to know when the next meeting will be. Schmidt leads the club activities, but the group is organized by media teacher Heather Nichols.
“Self Care Club is a great way to relax during the day and learn some skills that are useful throughout life, on self-regulation and dealing with stress. Plus, Kara is amazing and a great resource for students in the club,” said Nichols.
The Self Care Club next meets on Thursday, October 30, during homeroom. Future meetings will be announced on club days.
