Students you can help out with the tornado relief efforts in southern Indiana in many different ways.
First, Indiana Continental Express (owned by Sonny and Deanna Kendall just north of Paoli) is serving as a collection point for donations to assist tornado victims and clean-up operations.
They have made multiple deliveries already from the generosity of Orange Countians and will be accepting more at their business this week and will be sending over more supplies this week.
Items that are needed include the following: Gas cards, rakes, shovels, tarps, tree pruners, handsaws, plastic wheelbarrows, chain saw oil (2-cycle), work gloves, hammers and nails and crowbars. Other items to consider bringing are diapers and baby wipes for the children affected by the storms.
Another way you can help is to help the teens affected by the disaster. Art teacher Chris Jones’s wife Kate is a guidance counselor at Eastern Pekin and she has let us know that there are kids who have lost EVERYTHING. Think about what you use to get ready for school in the morning – they are in need of basic personal care items like toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo and feminine products.
Another need comes from English teacher Jamie Ott’s husband, an Indiana State Trooper, knows of TWO state police officers (who live in Henryville) who lost EVERYTHING. They are in need of 2 and 3T boys toddler clothing for their children.
Finally, the easiest way you can help is by donating gift cards. Consider bringing in gift cards for places like Kroger, Walmart and Target so victims can get the items that they need.
When you have your items to donate, please bring them to Mrs. Wyatt’s room or the front office to be taken to the relief locations to help those in need.
The deadline to turn in items is FRIDAY.
