Consquences of On-campus Tobacco Use

Although Paoli has been a tobacco free campus for year, the consequences of being caught with tobacco have not always been so harsh.

Previously, if a student was caught with tobacco, that student was only faced with two Friday schools, which is about the same as a student would be faced with if he or she was caught using a cell phone during school. This has changed.

“We’re making the consequences more severe,” said Assistant Principal Kyle Neukam.

Now, the rules are that if you are caught with tobacco, the first offense will be three days out of school suspension, the second offense will be five days out of school suspension and the third offense will result in a recommendation for expulsion.

“It hasn’t been as big an issue this year, but we want to make a difference,” said Neukam.
