On March 20, all the students will be participating in a convocation on suicide prevention. Junior high students will attend the event at 8:15 a.m., and the high school will follow at 9:15 a.m.
The program will be conducted by guidance counselors Brandi Kerley and Brandon Crowder. They will be talking and then share a video from a suicide prevention organization called the Jason Foundation.
The Jason Foundation was created by Clark Flatt after his son, Jason, killed himself at the age of 16. Jason was a normal boy who loved to go places and try new things. The whole point of the program is to show that you do not always see people who are thinking of committing suicide. No one would have ever thought that Jason was going to be a victim of suicide.
The program will help to show signs and signals for people that are thinking of committing suicide. They still do not know the reason that Jason decided to kill himself on July 16, 1997.
